Our client is a global manufacturer of petrochemicals, specialty chemicals and oil products. It comprises 12 businesses each with a major chemical company heritage. Its production network spans 51 manufacturing facilities in 11 countries throughout the world. They are the supplier of choice for many of the largest customers in the market! The Process Engineer works as part of the LAO process engineering team, and is accountable for providing chemical process engineering support to other plant staff.

Job Duties:
  • Develop improvements to existing unit processes and solutions to permit the implementation of products and new processes
  • Conduct experimental laboratory tests
  • Conduct process studies and develop innovative ideas regarding environmental protection, cost reduction, and the improvement of all process aspects
  • Develop technical solutions to problems, new process diagrams, manuals, and procedures
  • Identify and implement process improvements to lower cost, improve efficiency, and increase production
  • Support front-end development of capital projects: lead the development of process basis, quantify project benefits, and work with cross-functional project team to define the project scope
  • Provide process engineering support to complete detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning of approved projects
  • Develop process basis, scope, justification, and economics for identified non-capital project opportunities
  • Improve the plant processes by utilizing the process simulation software where necessary. This involves Hi-sys, Aspen+, Flexim, etc.
  • Participate in process hazard analyses, and participate and/or lead projects to address recommendations arising from PHA’s
  • Support health, safety, and environmental objectives at the plant by participating in projects, leading studies, participating in and leading incident/near miss investigations, and conducting behavioral safety observations
  • Work with operations and commercial staff to optimize performance of units by conducting studies and coordinating plant tests
  • Document engineering work and conduct post audits on projects as needed
  • Assist operations team with plant troubleshooting and project startups. Mentor junior process engineers as requested
  • Resolve day-to-day technical issues involved in operating the plant and communicate these solutions to others for execution
  • Investigate incidents and plant upsets to prevent any reoccurrence, and implement corrective actions
  • Write and/or review operating procedures and provide appropriate training
  • Plan and coordinate with other departments all activities needed to achieve overall production targets to include allocation of resources from maintenance, engineering, outside contractors, outside consultants, purchasing, logistics, laboratory, and other units
  • Approve waivers for raw material if acceptable and take appropriate actions
  • Approve LAO product specifications sheets and any modification brought to it
  • Identify training and development needs of staff
  • Participate in SIL/LOPA studies
  • Other duties
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor or Chemical Engineering degree
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the petrochemical industry
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication and writing skills, project management skills, and the ability to work independently
