Mechanical Engineer - Systems Engineer

Our client is a global defense, aerospace and security provider with a wide range of products and services that cover air, land, naval forces, advanced electronics, security, information technology, and support services. They are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to join their team in their Ottawa, Ontario Office.

This individual must be a Professional Engineer (Mechanical) who can provide Engineering Management for submarines.

Duties and Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
•    Ensure Product Safety and Engineering Governance (PSEG) requirements are followed
•    Develop task submissions, including Statements of Work (SoW) for sub-contractors and Statement of Technical Requirements (SOTR), identify resources and time required to complete tasks
•    Manage assigned tasks to achieve objectives within the assigned budget and timeframe
•    Be the point of contact with the customer, sub-contractors and suppliers for all engineering aspects
•    Review and approve Engineering Support Packs (ESPs) in support of material procurement and repair
•    Review, advise and approve research, technical and material queries
•    Review and verify work of subordinate members of the technical team, including sub-contractors
•    Review and approve engineering investigations
•    Advise on the development of technical specifications (including drawings, reports etc.)
•    Support the management of risk mitigation activities
•    Enhance and maintain the capability of the technical team; provide direction, guidance and assistance as appropriate
•    Manage assigned tasks to achieve objectives within the assigned budget and timeframe
•    Attend meetings with customers as the company representative
•    Liaise and communicate with customers as required to ensure that expectations are met
•    Complete other tasks as assigned by the Line Manager

Qualifications and Skills for this position include:
•    Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited University or Academic Institution
•    P.Eng designation with the PEO, or ability to register
•    Detailed knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
•    Ability to communicate effectively with team and stakeholders in other departments
•    Proficient in the Microsoft Office software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
•    Proficient in using Computer-aided Design (CAD) software
•    Experience in submarine support, or a marine background would be an asset
•    Must be eligible to access Controlled Goods
•    Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security level II: Secret clearance
•    Ability to travel both within Canada and internationally if required
•    Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and large workload
•    Valid driver’s license required
