Senior Mechanical Technologist - Building Systems

Our client is looking for a strong Senior Mechanical Designer/Technologist to join their team in their Kitchener, Ontario office! *** YOU MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE IN THE HVAC AND PLUMBING DESIGN OF INDUSTRIAL, COMMERCIAL, & INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS *** This individual must possess the ability to effectively mentor and develop junior staff. They must also have the ability to build strong relationships and rapport with customers. Our client strives to deliver accurate, complete, and quality work. Duties and Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: • Develop, or work with the Team Leader, Engineers and Project Managers (PM) to develop various project scopes while proactively identifying and responding to changes with team members and PMs • Performing detailed design functions following general outlines provided by an engineer • Create technical drawings and specifications independently, or in a team of technicians, for small, medium, and large scale projects • Check drawings and calculations for completeness and accuracy • Represent the Mechanical team by coordinating with all groups effectively through a sound understanding of other disciplines • Maintain and develop strong customer relationships as a technical leader in the group • Write internal and external reports including building audits and design reports at various project stages • Understand and oversee: concept and design development, codes and standards compliance, mechanical installation, mechanical service and distribution system calculations, as well as site surveys for retrofits • Coordinate and schedule production activities and quality assurance reviews • Preparing construction cost estimates following office guidelines and procedures Required Skills and Qualifications will include: • 8+ years of experience in the HVAC and Plumbing design of institutional, commercial, health care, energy and/or industrial projects • Graduate of Architecture Construction Engineering Technology Program or equivalent • Licensed member of OACETT preferred • Proven knowledge of Canadian/Ontario and other relevant codes and standards (ie: OBC, CSA, ASHREA, NFPA) • Familiarity with electrical requirement for mechanical system is an asset. • Excellent knowledge and experience in AutoCAD • Knowledge and/or experience in Revit is preferred • Experience in design or management of projects in a consulting engineering environment • Strong communication and presentation skills to interact with customers • Excellent coaching and mentorship capabilities
