Our client in British Columbia is looking for a Senior Biologist to join their team!

Preferably this individual will specialize in Aquatic Biology, and will work on aquatic, Riparian Areas Regulations (RAR), wildlife, and vegetation assignments.

This individual could be located in one of the following offices:
• Richmond, BC (preferred)
• Abbotsford, BC
• Kelowna, BC
• Victoria, BC

A major part of this role will be to complete fish and fish habitat assessments, including extensive water quality sampling, environmental assessments, environmental impact assessments, habitat remediation plans, habitat compensation plans, and environmental management plans.

Duties and Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Conduct and prepare technical reports for:
o fish/aquatic habitat assessments
o environmental impact assessments
o habitat impact mitigation and strategy
o habitat compensation planning
o erosion and sediment control and environmental compliance monitoring

• Secure environmental regulatory approvals and authorizations
• Participate in development of infrastructure projects
• Contribute to budget creation, performance forecasts, time management, and cost tracking
• Work on scope of work definition and the preparation of proposals
• Work with government agencies on regulatory issues
• Provide technical guidance on environmental protection and environmental permitting and licensing
• Provide environmental planning services to multi-disciplinary teams
• Effectively communicate and share information, knowledge and expertise between projects and service areas
• Coordinate projects with managers from other offices
• Serve as the primary contact for clients and ensure quality control
• Participate in business development and marketing initiatives

Required Skills and Qualifications will include:
• Degree or diploma in Biological, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or Fisheries sciences, or equivalent
• 8-10+ years of directly related experience, preferably in BC
• Registration or eligibility to register as a member in the College of Applied Biology or Applied Science Technologists or Technicians in the province of BC, (RPBio)
• Experience in dealing with municipal, provincial and federal regulators would be an asset
• Understanding of the Integrated Pest Management Regulations, BC Weed Control Regulation, and Invasive Plant Regulation would be an asset
• Excellent understanding of legislation and regulations related to environmental protection, including but not limited to the Riparian Areas Regulation (RAR), Fisheries Act, Water Sustainability Act
• Experience in environmental monitoring of construction projects, and working knowledge of erosion and sediment control practices
• Strong organizational skills to coordinate completion of multiple project deliverables
• Experience conducting fish habitat assessments
• Proven track record conducting negotiations and liaising with senior municipal, provincial and federal government agencies, contractors, developers, community stakeholders, First Nations and NGO’s
• Knowledge of Fraser Valley geography, ecology, wildlife and fish life history and habitat requirements
• Industrial Vegetation Management Noxious Weed Pesticide Applicator Certificate would be an asset
• Valid driver’s license, insurance, and personal vehicle
• There are times when security clearance may be required; Criminal Background Check will be conducted
• This position requires someone who is able to conduct field word that can be physically demanding with exposure to a variety of weather conditions
